Tips for the Tall Ships Races Helsinki 2024 Event
Welcome to The Tall Ships Races Helsinki 2024 event. Below you will find tips for the event and answers to frequently asked questions.
1. When is the event?
The event takes place from July 4th to 7th. The event area is open from Thursday to Saturday from 11 AM to 10 PM and on Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Lasten uutisten puisto is open from Thu-Sat 11 AM to 6 PM and on Sun 11 AM to 4 PM.
2. Where are the ships located? When will the ships arrive?
The ships are located at the Market Square and Katajanokka, as well as Kanavaranta, Pohjoisranta, and Halkolaituri. The ships are competing in the race from Klaipeda to Helsinki. The arrival time will be influenced by weather conditions. However, all ships will be docked by Thursday at 12:00 PM.
3. Can visitors board the ships?
Ships will inform visiting hours outside of the ships. Many ships allow visits on deck, but the times are determined by each ship. It’s best to come to the event and tour the ships to find the best visiting times.
4. How can I get to the event area?
It’s recommended to use public transportation to reach the event area. Tram lines 4 and 5 go to the event area. HSL has also added more trips for tram number 5, which runs continuously from Thursday to Saturday from 9 AM to 11 PM and on Sunday from 9 AM to 7 PM.
Additionally, the metro stops at the University of Helsinki station when coming from the east and Kamppi station when coming from the west. Both stations are within walking distance of the event area. The railway station stop is out of service.
When arriving by city bike, note that the parking station (no. 074) south of the Old Market Hall will be closed.
If arriving by electic scooter, please note that:
- The parking area opposite the Palace Hotel on the edge of Vironallas will be closed and replaced by a larger area south of the hall.
- The parking area on the seaside of the Old Market Hall will be closed and replaced by a larger area south of the hall.
- The parking area in the middle of Market Square at Helenankatu will be expanded.
- The parking area behind the Ferris wheel in Katajanokka will be closed and replaced by a larger area on the opposite side of the street.
- The parking area near Restaurant Nokka in Katajanokanranta will be moved a few meters towards Katajanokka Casino.
- The parking area at the beginning of Pohjoisranta will be moved a few meters towards the city center.
- All event areas are no-drive zones.
- All public transition areas are slow-driving zones.
Cars are recommended to be left at home, as parking spaces in the area are very limited.
Ferry traffic to Suomenlinna has been increased, and additional trips can be found in the HSL route planner. More trips have also been added to the service ferry from Katajanokka. The HSL route planner can be downloaded from the app store.
5. How do I know where each ship is located?
The event area map can be downloaded here, and paper maps will be distributed at information points and recycling points in the event area.
6. Where can I watch the Parade of Sails?
